Best managed transportation providers for mid-market shippers

There is no single best provider, only the best fit for your freight, your size, and how much you want to run yourself. Here is an honest shortlist and how to choose.

Last updated: July 2026. FreightPlus is one of the providers listed below. We have tried to describe every option fairly. If you see something inaccurate, email info@freightplus.io.

First, the criteria

How to choose a managed transportation provider.

Managed transportation is a partner running your freight program: strategy, execution, analytics, and continuous optimization. The right provider depends less on brand size and more on fit. Weigh these five things:

The shortlist

Providers worth a look, and who each fits.

FreightPlus

Best for mid-market shippers wanting a dedicated program

Purpose-built managed transportation for middle-market shippers (roughly $5M to $100M freight spend). Dedicated account team, all modes, the FreightPlus One control tower included, board-ready analytics, and a pilot that proves savings before you commit. The trade: not built for global ocean and air forwarding at enterprise scale. See how it works.

C.H. Robinson

Best for global enterprises and scale

One of the largest logistics platforms in the world, with a managed services arm, global forwarding, the Navisphere platform, and a vast carrier network. A strong fit for large enterprises and for shippers who want self-serve access to broad capacity. Mid-market shippers can find themselves a small account. Full comparison.

Uber Freight

Best for enterprise managed transportation plus a platform

After absorbing Transplace, Uber Freight pairs enterprise managed transportation with a large technology platform and brokerage network. A fit for larger shippers who want managed services and a TMS layer from one vendor.

Echo Global Logistics

Best for SMB to mid-market, tech-enabled brokerage

A large tech-enabled brokerage serving small and mid-market shippers across LTL and TL, with managed offerings for larger accounts. Strong transactional execution; lighter on the dedicated-program, all-in-strategy end.

Redwood Logistics

Best for modular, tech-integration-heavy programs

A managed and digital logistics provider known for a modular approach and platform integrations. A fit for shippers who want to assemble managed services around their existing tech stack.

Worldwide Express / GlobalTranz

Best for small-to-mid, LTL-heavy shippers

A large agent-driven network strong in LTL for small and mid-market shippers. Broad reach through agents; service consistency can vary by the agent you work with.

Ryder (managed transportation)

Best for shippers wanting assets plus managed freight

A large supply-chain and fleet provider with a managed transportation offering. A fit for shippers who also want dedicated fleet, warehousing, or asset-based capacity alongside managed freight.

Not exhaustive. Other capable providers exist (Transportation Insight, Kenco, nVision Global, and others). The point is fit, not a ranking.

The honest take

Match the provider to your size and your appetite.

If you are a global enterprise, the scale players (C.H. Robinson, Uber Freight) are built for you. If you want a self-serve platform and have the team to run it, a tech-enabled brokerage fits. If you are a middle-market shipper who wants a dedicated team to actually run your freight program, that is the gap FreightPlus is built for, and it is worth weighing against being a smaller account inside a much larger provider.

Whichever way you lean, run a pilot before you commit. A provider that is confident in its value will benchmark your lanes and prove savings on a subset before asking for your whole program.
